Walks

The picture comes from our bus shelter, in the middle of the village of Gunwalloe. It illustrates all there is to do, within walking distance: from Loe Bar (on the left) to Marconi's memorial, (on the right).

Gunwalloe sits on the South West Coast Path, between Porthleven and Mullion, on the west side of the Lizard peninsula. We have wonderful walks for anyone to enjoy. The coastline is rugged and beautiful at the same time, and full of history (shipwrecks etc).

Walking at Penrose includes a great walk to Dollar Cove and Church Cove, along with some interesting history.

Walks on the Lizard Peninsula

The Lizard peninsula has some stunning walks. We will be happy to drive out with you to drop your car off at one point, and then drive you to another point. The following are some example walks:

Rinsey to Porthleven Mining history, overlooking the cliffs, to beautiful harbour village. 1 hour.

Gunwalloe to Porthleven Across Loe bar, Loe pool.

Gunwalloe to Poldhu BeachStop off at Church Cove, along the way. Great café at Poldhu.

Gunwalloe to MullionA longer walk, some Marconi history, between Poldhu and Mullion.

Mullion to Kynance Cove

Kynance Cove to Lizard PointKynance Cove is renown as one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall. But it remains beautiful all the way to the Lizard.

Lizard Point to Cadgwith CoveAnother gorgeous walk, Cadgwith is a picturesk Cornish fishing village, and still active. The pub is pretty cool too.

Sunday March 3rd A fun afternoon and evening of activities to celebrate a very old village tradition. We will be raising money for: The Trussell Trust, Helston . Stop UK Hunger 3:00 pm - Service at the Church of the Storms Father Shane will lead this special service, to celebrate Gunwalloe feast day. The tradition of feast days is rooted in Christianity, so it’s a great way to begin our festivities. Father Shane will relate the stories of the feast day celebration, and the patron saint of our church, St Winwaloe. Poldark Filming at Gunwalloe

There was a little excitement in the village last night as many trucks and cars rumbled through. Because the road is a dead end at Church Cove, it was obvious something was going on. A quick internet search identified that the Poldark crew was filming in Charlestown this week. Two plus two makes four; surely they'd come to Gunwalloe for some more filming. Early this morning, more traffic through the village. I walked down to Church Cove, and sure enough there was an entire camp set up, people moving around, and filming taking place on Dollar Cove. Unfortunately I couldn't get too close, but it was fun to see the energy and hustle and bustle of everyone getting ready for some filming. Harriet (my dog) also thought it was curious to see some much action on an early November morning. Weather was cooperative too, despite the doom and gloom forecasts.

Cliff path now open: Loe Bar to Porthleven

After a long summer wait, the National Trust has now reopened the footpath that runs from Loe Bar to Porthleven. The path was diverted in January, due to cliff fall, adding about 4km to a walk to Porthleven: Porthleven to Loe Bar: Path diverted due to cliff fall .
